What is an Army Warrant Officer?

The Army Warrant Officer dates back to 1918 with the birth of the US Army Mine Planter Service and has evolved into today’s definition as an adaptive technical expert, combat leader, trainer, and advisor. Through progressive levels of expertise in assignments, training, and education, the Warrant Officer administers, manages, maintains, operates, and integrates Army systems and equipment across the full spectrum of Army operations.

Today there are over 42 Warrant Officer Specialties representing nearly all branches of the Army, including Adjutant General Corps, Air Defense Artillery, Aviation, Engineer, Field Artillery, Judge Advocate General, Medical Services, Military Intelligence, Military Police, Ordinance, Quartermaster, Signal, Special Forces, Transportation, and Veterinary service.
